Another Cloning Opinion

November 16th, 2007 by drew

Summary: In the article “Beware the push for human cloning” written by Brian Harradine, Harradine bashes human cloning and the people who support it. The author says human cloning would make the scientists manufactuars making average humans products. Brian also states that the clone would most likely be parentless. Later he states that many human rights laws would be broken by cloning

Commentary: I agree with Harradine about the topic but not for the smae reasons. Humans shouldn’t be allowed for the fact that, God doesn’t want us changing what he has made. I’m not saying human cloning doesn’t have possitives, like identicle organ transplants, but ethically, it would not be right.

Evaluation: The author refrences all his facts so I am able to trust him. He appelas to his readers through pahtos in the way he discusses baby embryos being killed to research something, even though it probably won’t make that much of a differnace which is horrible, because killing babies is wrong, and always will be.

Genetic Egineering and It’s effect on the World

November 2nd, 2007 by drew

Just Added:
Wade, Nicholas. “Genetic Engineers Who Don’T Just Tinker.” The New York Times. 08 July 2007. 27 Oct. 2007 http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/08/weekinreview/08wade.html?_r=1&n=Top/News/Sci….

Summary: Nicholas Wade, a publisher for “The New York Times”, wrote an article about the current progress involving genetic engineering.  He supports the theory of genetically altering organisms.  This is shown throughout the passage.  Wade speaks of how this new technology will give humans extraordinary power, and how that power will help the human race.  Now the article mentions “growing a house out of an acorn”, which would be beneficial to the poor. “An abundance of natural resources”  are supposed to be made out of plants being genetically altered.

Commentary: Throughout this article I agree and disagree with specific details.  For example, I agree with the pros, such as fossil fuels, that spawn from genetic engineering.  Now what I don’t agree with is the alteration with what God has intentionally made.

Analysis:  The author uses facts from many well respected scientists, and institutions, therefore his credibility is accounted for.  He uses pathos in his passage by appealing to the subject natural resources, which is sensitive with many people. Logos is also used by applying logic to solving world crises.
